Greener Homes Loan
The Canada Greener Homes Loan extends interest-free financial assistance to aid Canadians in improving the energy efficiency and overall comfort of their residences. This unique financing option empowers individuals to finance suggested retrofits, guided by the recommendations of an energy consultant, that have yet to begin.

Each eligible property and homeowner is limited to a single loan. The calculation of the maximum eligible loan amount takes into account the chosen retrofits in the application and the corresponding quotes for the work. Upon approval, a partial disbursement of the loan can be made upfront to assist in covering any necessary deposits requested by your contractor. The remaining balance of the loan will be disbursed after the completion of the retrofits and subsequent verification through a post-retrofit evaluation. The Canada Greener Homes Loan requires an energy audit to be completed by a registered energy advisor. An audit and the loan application must be completed prior to the start of the work. A second audit is required after the project is complete. The registered energy advisor must not be affiliated with the contractor doing the work and payment is made directly by the homeowner to the energy advisor for their services. Many municipalities offer rebates to help offset some of the costs associated with the audits.

BC’s Self-Generation Program
(Previously Net Metering)
The self-generation program, formerly known as net metering, gives homeowners and businesses the opportunity to produce their own renewable energy. This initiative helps participants lower their electricity costs and become less dependent on the traditional power grid while still having access to BC Hydro’s supply when needed. The program operates through a two-way energy exchange between the customer’s system and BC Hydro’s grid.

BC PST Tax Exemption & Clean Buildings Tax Credit
Grid Connected and Off Grid Solar Systems are exempt from PST. If your system includes batteries, the battery component only is taxable at both federal and provincial levels.
The clean buildings tax credit offers a refundable income tax credit for eligible retrofits that enhance energy efficiency in qualifying commercial and multi-unit residential buildings with four or more units. Both individuals and corporations may qualify for this tax credit.
