BC Hydro’s Self-Generation Program
(Previously Net Metering)
The self-generation program, formerly known as net metering, gives homeowners and businesses the opportunity to produce their own renewable energy. This initiative helps participants lower their electricity costs and become less dependent on the traditional power grid while still having access to BC Hydro’s supply when needed. The program operates through a two-way energy exchange between the customer’s system and BC Hydro’s grid. BC PST Tax Exemption & Clean Buildings Tax Credit
Grid Connected and Off Grid Solar Systems are exempt from PST. If your system includes batteries, the battery component only is taxable at both federal and provincial levels.
The clean buildings tax credit offers a refundable income tax credit for eligible retrofits that enhance energy efficiency in qualifying commercial and multi-unit residential buildings with four or more units. Both individuals and corporations may qualify for this tax credit.
